An interactive glitch piece released in 2023 as an edition of 18 on Ethereum, with a Bitcoin inscription behind it.
Interlude is an interactive generative work by Harto from 2023. The Ethereum edition has 18 tokens on OpenSea, minted on 29 May 2023, and the collection description reads simply «Experimental drop».
The tokens share one artwork, with an animation stored on Arweave.
The accompanying text begins from the idea that generative art needs both mathematics and a grasp of how the brain processes information, and calls grey matter the tissue that makes it possible.
It then states the work’s other life: Interlude is described as the artist’s first fully on-chain interactive artwork on the Bitcoin blockchain. The token text notes that the winner of an auction would receive the Ordinal after burning the Ethereum version.
The artwork is a short program that draws on a square canvas. Every 50 milliseconds it places a new square of random size, either black or white, slightly displaced from its grid position. Every 100 milliseconds a glitch pass inverts the colour of about five percent of the pixels.
The viewer takes part: moving the pointer across the canvas leaves small white squares. The picture is therefore never the same twice.
HTML and JavaScript on a canvas element, stored on Arweave and referenced by ERC-721 tokens on Ethereum. The work also exists as an Ordinals inscription on Bitcoin, which the token metadata links to.
