A five-piece generative series on Bitcoin that treats the optical flaw of colour fringing as its main gesture.
Chromatic Aberration is a five-piece generative series by Harto, inscribed on Bitcoin in April 2025. Its works, Warp, Radiance, Spectrum, Scatter and Drift, are made of bold bands of colour that bend into swirls and break into vertical glitches.
It belongs to the year Harto brought his work to Bitcoin Vegas, where he also presented the related project The Aberration Game.
The title comes from an optical phenomenon: light split by a lens does not meet at a single point, and the image fringes into edges of red, green, blue and yellow. Photographers treat it as a defect.
In this series it is the central gesture. The colour that spills past each shape is the subject of the work, and every piece uses a different palette to push the fringing in another direction.
Each of the five works is a generative program with its own fixed seed and palette. Colour bands are drawn along curved paths that twist around a centre, then sliced and displaced in vertical strips, so that the image seems to be caught while a lens is slipping out of focus.
The series also exists as limited-edition prints. In Las Vegas, Harto showed a machine and print installation around the related project The Aberration Game.
The series starts with a parent inscription, an SVG title card carrying the series description, copyright and a Creative Commons licence. Below it are five SVG cards, one for each work, and each card has a child inscription that holds the generative piece.
These HTML inscriptions set a seed and a palette and load their drawing code by recursion, so the images are produced from the chain when they are opened. The pieces were inscribed on 14 April 2025.
