Time Machine is a series of 25 generative works inscribed on Bitcoin in December 2024. Each shows a single form: a quarter-fan of narrow, outlined segments that open from a dark centre, drawn over a softly grained field.
The series was not sold in a public mint. It was given to members of the Asprey Studio Club who bought the cracker watch.
The inscription describes the series as a bridge between the rush of technological change and the timelessness of digital memory: a journey through a blockchain history that keeps moving yet cannot be altered.
The fan reads like a dial or a sweep of hands, with time drawn as a spread of small, countable segments, while the grain of the ground suggests an old print or a film frame. The same structure repeats across the series, and the colour changes the mood of each piece.
The works are written in p5.js. Every piece is the same program run with its own seed, and it takes its colours from a named palette. The palettes in the code include Neutral, Primary, Film, Autumn, Industrial and Terrain, among others, and each piece records its palette type and seed in its metadata.
The forms are drawn from layers of animated arcs with different easings, over a generated grain, and a trace of earlier movement stays on the canvas.
The 25 pieces are children of a single parent inscription, which records them as one series. Each child is a short HTML inscription that sets its seed and loads two shared inscriptions by recursion: the p5.js library and the generative script. The artwork is assembled from the chain every time it is opened.
The pieces were inscribed from 7 December 2024. The on-chain year is 2024, although some marketplace listings date the series to 2025.
